Ludwig Oxford and the IDRM host A-level students for a hands-on introduction to research

We recently welcomed a group of A-level students to Ludwig Oxford and the Institute of Developmental and Regenerative Medicine (IDRM) for our annual Biomedical Research Careers Week. The programme is designed to help students make informed decisions about their future studies and careers in research, medicine, or beyond, before applying to university, and forms part of our ongoing commitment to public engagement and broadening access to science.

The students spent five days in the lab gaining hands-on experience with a range of techniques including PCR, flow cytometry, confocal microscopy and tissue staining, as well as learning the fundamentals of pipetting, serial dilutions, cell culture and so much more

Alongside the practical sessions, students heard from scientists and staff at all stages of their careers, toured our facilities, and worked on their own research question throughout the week.

We’d like to thank all the staff, speakers, and lab teams who helped make the week such a success, particularly Tomoko Watanabe for leading the initiative, and all the students for their enthusiasm, engagement and curiosity!
